Celebrating a Year of Impact: NWCC’s 2024 Milestones
NWCC’s Executive Director reflects on a transformative year of community action, innovation, and progress.
NWCC ended 2024 with a lot to be proud of. Here are a few key milestones that highlight the impact of our efforts this year:
NWCC was pivotal in the arrest of “Red Beard” who was causing havoc in the Pearl District with thefts of electronic bicycles and more, but is now sitting in jail awaiting trial with over 20 counts and has arrest warrants in all three metro counties.
NWCC security was also on-site to help with a fire in a condo building and the most recent vandalism of Bank of America, which got the police to the site faster, and PPB was able to make the arrest before anyone left.
We have taken the humanitarian side of NWCC in-house, which has allowed our team to more effectively focus their efforts on getting people into shelters while also making sure that everyone is treated humanely.
Since joining in September, I am pleased to see the collaboration between the city, Portland Police Bureau (PPB), and the Pearl District has significantly strengthened, driving more effective solutions to the challenges we face.
My team and I have a direct line to partners in the city who are working hard to improve the issues on the street level. We are pushing them to better understand the Pearl, and honestly it's been a wonderful experience. The city feels like they have a point person for the Pearl, someone they can trust to tell them the truth and work with them to get the necessary tools/information to make change happen. It has been a very productive 4 months since joining the NWCC.
We’ve accomplished much in 2024, and I am really looking forward to the work not only in security and humanitarian issues but also with a focus on business improvement/recruitment in 2025.
Happy New Year, Pearl District!
