A New Year’s Message

Ken Thrasher, Board Chair, NW Community Conservancy (NWCC)

NWCC Board Chair Ken Thrasher and Leif Spencer, Loving One Another, received Community Awards for their efforts to address challenges in the Pearl District

As we end 2023, I want to thank all the members, supporters, partners, and the Pearl District community for supporting the NW Community Conservancy's work to improve safety, livability, and the business climate in the Pearl.

We have accomplished much over the past year:

  • Reduced tent counts by helping the homeless transition to shelters and services with our great LOA partnership.

  • We continue to clean up our streets through PDNA and local citizen's efforts.

  • Our partnership with Pacific Echelon has decreased vandalism and crime rates thanks to patrols and a responsive hotline.

  • We have provided accountability through monthly metric reporting.

  • The NWCC advocated for the Pearl District with government entities through participation in the Central City Task Force.

We will still have much to do.

2024 Goals:

  • I would like to double our membership. Membership in the NWCC provides neighborhood security and humanitarian services holistically to the Pearl District. Becoming a member of the NWCC means investing in the Pearl District.

  • Additional goals include extending the business tax credit to the Pearl District. We must reduce commercial vacancies in 2024.

  • Add other services resulting from NWCC's work as a member of the Central City Task Force around areas where funding can be leveraged for the benefit of the community.

  • Support measures to curtail open drug use and dealing and strategically use technology, including cameras, to reduce crime further.

All of us at NWCC wish you a happy New Year and look forward to improving the Pearl further in 2024. Together, we can do this!
Sincerely,
NWCC Board Chair, Ken Thrasher, the NWCC Board Members, and our Partners
